Celebrate the genius of Barcodes today

I thought Google was being hacked when, in the middle of my googling, the normal logo changed to a barcode (and my search results seemed unusually unhelpful — turns out I was just googling with poor search terms.)  But guess what?  Today is the anniversary of the bar code, which was patented on October 7, 1952.  The special date coincides with the announcement of the joint winners of the Nobel prize for physics, without whom bar codes could not be read.
